Hope you can rustle up a spankin' today.

Yesterday, the family celebrated my dad's 89th birthday, at a little neighborhood Mexican restaurant called Sol Aztecas (yes, I insert a link for everything!).  Gary and I ate there back in May when he was up for Derby.  It wasn't what I would call a great restaurant -- it's hard to mess up Mexican food, but it's also hard to really stand out. 

But Dad had an ulterior motive for going there.  The building which is now the restaurant was once a house, waaaaaaaay back in the 1920s, and it's where my dad spent the first five years of his life.  Back then there were few cars on Frankfort Avenue; I imagine it was mostly horses and mules (that one's for Marika).  And back then antique stores were just called furniture stores because they weren't antiques yet.

Anyway, Dad had his burritos deluxe with a trip down memory lane.  Then the staff came out with fried ice cream and sang him Feliz Cumpleaños, and presented him with an honorary sombrero, as you can see below:



Right after taking this pic, my camera battery went out, so I couldn't get any more, dammit.  My brother said next year, on his 90th, he gets strippers.  Oh boy!

Well I went out today and, as Gary put it, bought myself an early birthday present.  I've been hearing a lot about this 21st Century and all from Barack Obama, so I finally got a little mp3 player from Circuit City.  The salesman was cute too :)  It's only 2 GB, and expandable memory, but how many songs will I actually put on it?  We shall see....

Going to see "W" the movie this afternoon with my ex.  Politics was our "thing," I guess, but don't call us the gay James Carville and Mary Matalin.  (althought I was the Democrat when we met so that makes him Mary!) When we met, W was only a budding fuckup... now he's in full bloom, so it's fitting that we choose his successor after breaking up this year.

Hope you all have a good weekend.  We've got the first real taste of fall weather in Kentucky right now, and as the McD's commercial says, "I'm Lovin' It."

I think I'm off to order my cake for my 40th bday party -- today or by next weekend.  I found this real war protest poster from 1968 (the theme of the party... groovy, huh?).  I put it on the front of my party invitation, and the fabulousgeb1966ky  suggested I use this for my cake.  Doesn't it scream caramel frosting?  I'm thinking a chocolate cake underneath.
